History:

Dawnstar was created as replacement for Ambassador class ships, stronger and better armored then predceeding ship and also more capable for longer range exploration. However in times when Dawnstar enter service, instead of explorer it end serving as heavy cruiser, role which it played well. It prove itself during the Dominion war, although few members of its class were destroyed. It has excellent combination of weapons and defenses, however it was rather slow comparing to other ships in similar size, especially versatible Nebula. Dawnstar was later upgraded with stronger armor and new engines, eliminating some bugs that class had from beginning.

It continue to serve as exploration ship, but during the wartimes it was capable cruiser. USS Caduceus fought during the Odonan war and was later the first ship outfited with Transwarp engines, it served the first frontal Starfleet base in Delta quadrant where it continue to explore and protect the Federation assets in area.

Overal Dawnstar isn't high tech ships as some of the newest classes, it resemble Ambassador inside and outside with small modern touch to it, ship is also called the upgraded Ambassador because it shares updated Ambassador design. It was not suprised that some crews even call it Ambassador II. Because of its exploration capabilities it was one of frontal exploration classes.
